Frequently Asked Questions
What is Mission Inverted Driver Geometry (IDG)?
IDG is Mission’s practice of mounting the tweeter below the mid/bass driver instead of above it. Mission uses it to improve time alignment, evening out the distance from each driver to a seated listener’s ears, with the aim of more coherent sound and sharper imaging. Mission introduced it on the original 700 in 1980. Among current models, the 700 and 750 use IDG; the 770 uses a conventional layout.
What is the difference between the Mission 750, 700 and 770?
All three are two-way standmounts with polypropylene mid/bass drivers and 28mm dome tweeters. The 750 is the compact entry model (5.25-inch driver, bass to about 42Hz), best in small to medium rooms. The 700 is larger (6.5-inch driver, to below 38Hz) and suits medium rooms. The 770 is the flagship (8-inch driver, to 30Hz), comes with steel stands, and is best in medium to large rooms. The 700 and 750 use Inverted Driver Geometry; the 770 uses a traditional layout.
Which Mission speaker is best for a small room?
The 750 is the most compact of the three, making it the easiest starting point for a smaller listening room or a space-conscious system. The 700 also suits a small to medium room if you want more scale, while the 770 is larger and better suited to medium and larger spaces.
What amplifier works well with Mission speakers?
Mission’s current speakers are fairly amplifier-friendly. The 750 (6 ohms, 86dB, 25 to 100 watts) and 700 (8 ohms, 86dB, 25 to 150 watts) suit most good integrated amps in that power range. The 770 (8 ohms, 88dB) is rated for 25 to 200 watts and rewards more power in a larger room. Mission’s own 778X integrated (45 watts into 8 ohms) is a natural match for the 750 and 700. We’re glad to advise on pairings.
