The story of the Sandwich 100 begins with the original LEAK Sandwich loudspeaker introduced in 1961, a design that revolutionised driver technology. At the time, traditional speaker cone materials often lacked the stiffness required for accurate sound reproduction, resulting in unwanted distortion and reduced clarity.

LEAK addressed this challenge by developing a unique “sandwich” cone construction using expanded polystyrene foam between two aluminium layers. This innovative approach created a cone that was both lightweight and exceptionally rigid, allowing for more accurate pistonic movement and improved sonic precision.

The LEAK Sandwich 100 features a newly developed 150mm mid/bass driver based on the latest evolution of the Sandwich cone concept. This updated design uses Rohacell aircraft-grade structural foam bonded between aluminium skins, creating an extremely strong yet lightweight diaphragm.

This construction reduces unwanted cone breakup, improves transient response, and minimises distortion for cleaner, more accurate sound reproduction. The driver is supported by a long-throw motor system with a high-gauss magnet and low-loss suspension, ensuring consistent performance even at higher listening levels.

Complementing the mid/bass unit is a specially developed 30mm coated textile dome tweeter. This larger-than-average tweeter allows for improved power handling and lower crossover points, resulting in smooth, detailed high frequencies and a seamless transition between bass and treble.
